Strike

DSC_0271DSC_0255 What better than a hot pink bowling ball and some stylish shoes. With summer quickly coming to an end we decided that we had better get on the “ball” and start on all those summer trips we had planned. DSC_0258

After several weeks of vacation, my “social butterfly” was more than excited to see all of her friends. But she was plum giddy to see her good buddy Carsen.

DSC_0262The Rodgers boys Nanny was more than happy to tag along. What a brave Nanny!

Braley loved bowling. I tried numerous times to get a picture of her pushing ball, but it didn’t happen. However, I ended up with a ton of pictures of her getting the ball and waiting to see how many pins she could knock down.

DSC_0282The “almost-final” scoreboard. Not bad for some little bowlers. Maybe ‘ol T.H.S. might have a bowling team some day…. that’ll be the day.

You and me baby, pickin’ blueberries.

For at least the past month I have promised Braley that we would go pick blueberries. She may have forgot about it if we didn’t pass the blueberry sign every time we go to my Mom and Dad’s house. DSC_0346

This week has been pretty laid back for us, first week since summer started that we haven’t had anything to do or anywhere to be. What better adventure than a little blueberry pickin’? Since Brandon gets off at 3:30 and the place doesn’t open until 5 we decided to wait for him to get home. No sooner than he pulled under the carport, the clouds began to roll in, still we decided to go.

We arrived just as they were opening the gates (imagine that, I was the first one there), and setting up the tents. We unloaded and before we could even get out of the car good Braley stepped in an ant bed. I’m talking the mother of ant beds, in a few seconds they had covered her feet and she was screaming bloody murder. Brandon grabbed her up and I ripped her shoes off and went to brushing ants off. The owner was so sweet and came over with a cup of water to help wash her feet.

Finally, we were ready to start picking. DSC_0343 I thought Braley would be my blueberry taster, but she was quick to inform me that she was saving hers for pancakes or waffles. Brandon on the other hand is a different story. DSC_0349

DSC_0353

While it is late in the season you can see we didn’t have any problem finding blueberries.

DSC_0355 I just love this picture. I beginning to realize that my “baby” is quickly growing up. The day is coming all to soon when she will be to “cool” to hold her Daddy's hand.

Sewing 101

I couldn’t tell you how long I have been looking at the crayon rolls and thinking about this project. If I knew how to sew, or had a sewing machine, I may have jumped on it a little quicker. My M-I-L has been nice enough to loan me her machine for the summer so I thought what better project to start with.

I asked my Mom if she would help me with the project and she was “willing” to help. Before it was finished I think it turned more into her project than mine, but either way it was fun and is finished.

DSC_0365The finished projects.

DSC_0366The inside of both the coloring book holder and crayon roll. I have plans to make another and when I do want to add pockets on the inside of the holder. I just think it would be easy for taking to church and places to have it all in one.

Happy July 4th

While I love Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays and all holidays in between, I don’t know that there is anything better than a patriotic holiday.

Our pastor, Bro. Danny is in the Army Reserves and serves as Chaplin. How more patriotic can you get than your pastor preaching in his uniform on Sunday morning?

DSC_0298 And what about all those patriotic songs? I wish I knew how to get my Facebook video on her…. but I don’t. I can tell you, not that I wasn’t feeling the service but seeing my sweet girl get up in church and sing "Grand ‘ol Flag” brought tears to this Mamas’ eyes. At 4 Braley can take the mike with no fear and not miss a beat. I love to hear Braley sing in church. Can you tell me what Mama wouldn’t? DSC_0300After the service I tried to snap some pictures of Braley in her "America dress” but all I got was this, because……..

DSC_0303 DSC_0304

all she wanted to do was hide in the forest.

DSC_0301She did agree to take her picture with Mammy and Uncle Boy but wasn’t posing.

DSC_0307 DSC_0309

Until Brooke got in the picture…. that brought a smile to her face. DSC_0311

DSC_0314

Later that night we went to see some local fireworks, all Braley wanted to do was light her sparklers

DSC_0315 And play with the Rodgers boys.

DSC_0328

This picture of Braley cracked me up. I think at this point I was having to hold back laughter while getting on to her, she was telling Wyatt to be her dog and he was all to willing to play along. We are never gonna marry this girl off.

DSC_0329 Thankfully the boys escaped the grasp of Braley and spent some time running up and down the hill. I think there Mama tried to stop them, but I thought it was pretty cute.

DSC_0339

By the time the end came, I think the look on Braley’s face sums up all of our feelings. Well, not mine, thankfully the “juke-box van” behind us kept my spirits high.

A night with friends

DSC_0381

One of my dearest friends, Franne, has also been bite by the sewing buy. You have to know this girl, she is crazy (good crazy), and super talented. When she puts her mind to something is will be complete, even if it takes her half the night.

I wish I had some pictures of our day adventure, but I don’t. Around lunch we met up at the Ivy House and then headed down the street to the fabric store. After 3 hours and many laughs later we had the perfect fabric and big plans.

After much persuasion we talked our husband into agreeing to our late-night sewing plans. Around 8 Franne and her girls pulled in at my Mom’s house and the fun began.

DSC_0371Getting sewing advice of just gabbing?

DSC_0379

While these crayon rolls aren’t hard, they aren’t exactly easy. It has taken several times and working together to get them right where we want them.

When it come to sewing, trial and error also means a lot of this……….

Three silly girls……

who found good uses for the fabric scraps.

DSC_0376

About 1:45 when the phone rang we decided we had better start calling it a night. By 2 we had things cleaned up and headed home for a good nights sleep.

I couldn’t end this post without a picture of the boots. Franne loves her some boots, and is plenty tall enough to pull them off. While I wasn’t sure about them at first, they have grown on me and I think they are pretty stinkin’ cute and fit her just right.

I have a hard enough time keeping up with one blog more-a-less two. In my effort to be a better blogger I am combining my two blogs.

Almond Joy Cake

Zebra Cake

Windows Live Writer

Recently I read about this program on a friends blog and decided to give it a try. I am so happy I did. One of the great things about this program is that it does not require the internet to run. For me this is a plus, about 6 months ago we let our internet go because we could only get dial-up. The downside to no internet was no blogging. Sure it was easy to keep up with my friends blogs via my IPhone, but not easy for me to blog. Now I am able to write my blogs and just take my computer with me to publish them. I could have done this before but with the Blogger program you had to add you text, insert your pictures and all that other foolishness. Live Writer is just like using Word, you write your blog, add your pictures, and hit publish (or save) and bam, you are done. Did you catch the add your pictures part? Live Writer allows you to copy and paste your pictues in to the post and easily move them around, you can even add borders.

If you haven't already done so, visit here and get this program today!!!

The first year comes to an end

It’s hard to believe that my “baby” has completed her first school year. It seems like only yesterday she was born, now she is a big school girl. What’s even harder to believe is that after one more year of PreK she will be going to kindergarten. Really, kindergarten? Does anyone have a clock to stop time?

Braley was blessed this year with two of the best teachers, she loved them and enjoyed going to school everyday. She also meet some characters this year, which she more than happily calls her friends.

Braley with some of the boys….

DSC_0277Surely I don’t have to tell you this one is a Mitchell? DSC_0275 Braley and her prince.

DSC_0282 Marching in

The highlight of the program had to be all the singing and dancing. These babies were just to stinking cute!

These two girls are a hoot! Bailey, bless her heart, wants to be just like Braley. Lord please be with her and her Mama.

You want me to touch that?

Braley checking out the alligator with a little “encouragement” from Aunt Franne. With the one finger prick I think she was less than impressed.

Enchanted magical tea party.

While thumbing through a magazine, my Mama came across an advertisement for a magical tea party. This sounded right up my girls alley, complete with fairy dust, crowns and makeup.

DSC_0462Checking out the pony. All the proceeds from the event went to the Gentle Carousel ponies. These ponies visit local school, nursing homes and work with hospice.

The first fairy we met was the Makeup Fairy.

DSC_0472DSC_0475DSC_0480

Then came the Fairy of Manners. She taught her how to use our nice words and how we introduce ourselves to others.

DSC_0497 And in what direction to properly pass platters and bowls, which is counter-clockwise.

All the girls enjoyed themselves, but I'm not sure the older ladies didn’t have the most fun.
